The Talent Inversion: Upcoming Challenges Facing All Employers

The Talent Inversion: Upcoming Challenges Facing All Employers

For more than 20 years, monthly employment statistics revealed that the number of unemployed individuals in the US exceeded the number of open non-agricultural positions. Then, right around April 2018, we were introduced to the talent inversion, meaning there were far more open jobs in the US economy than unemployed people to fill them. In May of 2019, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that a 50-year low in the unemployment rate had masked a 70% increase in the gap between unemployment and available jobs. This jump from 1.1 million available jobs to over 1.7 million open jobs occurred in just one month.

While some industries are already feeling the impact of this change in employment “supply and demand” dynamics, it is just a matter of time until all employers feel the effects. In this session, we’ll review the key defensive talent-management actions employers must take to thrive in the talent inversion.
